Thanks to a late-night Facebook post by Jon W., I was alerted to the Norfolk Southern Safety Train running south on the NS H-line (Shenandoah Valley Line) early this morning. Fortunately I made it to Riverton Junction this morning in time to see the train heading south.
The Norfolk Southern Safety Train tours the NS system and is used to provide free training for first responders. The train is led by NS GP38-2 #5642 which is painted in a special “Training First Responders” paint scheme. The train was on its way to Harrisonburg, Virginia for the next training session.
